Seoul’s next city-run matchmaking event will take singles on dates through a night market and the restaurants of Sangbong Food Alley.
The second round of “Seolleim in Seoul” is to be held at the Moonlight Night Market in Jungnang-gu on Oct. 23, from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., the Seoul Metropolitan Government said Tuesday.
The city will select 50 men and 50 women, all of whom must be unmarried and aged 25 to 45. Participants will visit restaurants chosen to suit their tastes, go on double dates at the night market and walk through the food alley.
The event is part of “Seoulting 2.0,” a city-run matchmaking program that pairs dating activities with visits to locations around Seoul.
Its first event was held aboard a city-run Hangang Bus ferry earlier in September. It drew 2,374 applications for 100 places and resulted in 28 matched couples, according to the city.
In a survey after that event, 98.9 percent of respondents said they wanted the matchmaking program to be held regularly.
Seoul also plans to help participants stay in touch after each event. It will invite them to a group chat and share information about cultural programs they could attend together.
The venue is also part of Seoul’s efforts to develop neighborhood nightlife.
Sangbong Food Alley, home to 137 businesses, was selected this year for the city’s Moonlight Night Market project and is eligible for up to 2 billion won ($1.47 million) in project funding through 2028.
Applications for the Sangbong event will open Wednesday and close at 5 p.m. on Oct. 14. Selected applicants will be notified on Oct. 19.
